HOW DO YOU REMOVE RESIN DRIVEWAY?
Clear the driveway:
Remove any obstacles or debris from the driveway so that you can work more easily and safely.
Soften the resin:
You can use a heat gun or a propane torch to soften the resin driveway. Hold the heat source a few inches above the surface and move it back and forth until the resin becomes soft and pliable.
Scrape off the resin:
Use a scraper or a putty knife to scrape off the softened resin. Work in small sections and try to get as much resin off as possible.
Apply a solvent:
Use a solvent like acetone or paint thinner to break down any remaining resin. Apply the solvent with a brush or a cloth and let it sit for a few minutes to allow it to penetrate the resin.
Scrub the area:
Use a stiff-bristled brush to scrub the area and remove any remaining resin. You may need to apply more solvent and repeat the scrubbing process a few times.
Rinse the area:
Once all the resin has been removed, rinse the area with water to remove any remaining solvent.
Dispose of waste: Make sure to properly dispose of any waste materials, including the scrapings and any solvents or chemicals used in the process.
Note that the specific methods and tools you use may depend on the type and thickness of the resin, as well as the condition of the driveway. It's always a good idea to test any solvents or chemicals on a small, inconspicuous area of the driveway first to make sure they won't cause any damage or discoloration.
What is resin driveway and how is it use?
A resin driveway floor is actually a collection of millions of dried and sieved stones, which are held together with a kind of resin.
However, an adhesive primer is first applied under the layer of stone carpet. For indoor stone carpets, epoxy is often used as a binding agent, but for outdoor applications something else is often used, as the floor must be able to withstand different weather conditions. A special PU (Polyurethane) glue is therefore more often used for outdoors, which is UV-resistant, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. In addition, PU glue makes the floor elastic, making it resistant to extreme temperatures.
The stones and the binder are mixed together and then spread out. After about 4 hours the floor will be hardened.
Grain size
As for the stones that are incorporated in the floor, you can choose from different thicknesses. You can choose a small size of 2 to 3 mm, a medium size of 3 to 4 mm or a large size of 4 to 6 mm.
The size of the stones will determine not only the thickness of the resin driveway, but also the look. The smaller the stones you choose, the more homogeneous the floor will look.
Color choice
When it comes to the color of the floor, you basically have endless options. But since it is for a terrace, you have to take a few things into account. Your terrace floor is exposed to sunlight, so it is wise to choose lightfast colours. With lightfast colors you choose colors that are hardly affected by the sun's rays. Granite stones or fine marble are examples of this.
Nevertheless, the non-yellowing PU resin will also ensure that the original color is always retained.
Protection layer
To offer your stone carpet extra protection, you can also apply a glossy top layer. This is a transparent PU topcoat.
